WyoAIDS Walk 2011, our 10th annual walk, was a great success. The Laramie walk brought in more that $5,000, Drag Queen Bingo more than $10,500, and the Cheyenne walk added even more to our tally. Which means that to date, these 5-K pledge walks have raised more than $160,000 to provide support for men, women and children living with HIV in Wyoming. Walk funds are administered by the non profit Laramie Reproductive Health through a client assistance fund which can by accessed through HIV Case Managers across the state.
Funds are used for medical, dental, vision, counseling and other emergency needs not covered by insurance or other programs. In the past ten years, more than 400 individuals have received assistance through walk funds. WyoAIDS Walk is the only statewide fundraising effort to provide help for HIV+ or AIDS diagnosed individuals in Wyoming.
Volunteers from the University of Wyoming student groups including Face AIDS and Spectrum, LCCC's Across All Lines, Laramie Reproductive Health, and several members of the Laramie and Cheyenne communities work together to plan the walks and related activities. Thanks to their efforts and underwriting funds, all monies raised from the walk and related activities go directly into the client assistance fund.
The 2007 WyoAIDS Walk raised more than $14,000 to help men, women and children living with HIV in Wyoming. Our thanks and appreciation goes to all the volunteers, donors, sponsors and the 300+ walkers who made it possible!
The 2011 WyoAIDS Walk took place Saturday, April 9, on the UW campus. Related education activities on campus included a rapid HIV testing clinic, and a keynote address by Heidi Simon and Isaac Ramirez, an HIV+ mother and son who speak extensively on the challenges of living with HIV. Drag Queen Bingo returned by popular demand on Friday, April 22.

Our thanks to nearly 400 who walked, individuals or businesses that donated money or gifts-in-kind to support the 2008 WyoAIDS Walk. We had our best walk ever! More than $20,000 was raised, which brings our seven year total to more than $100,000! Additionally, nearly 100 people took advantage of the free rapid HIV testing offered the week prior to the walk, and several hundred more attended one of the education programs offered. If you couldn\'t join us for any of this year\'s events, you can still support the walk. Send your contribution to WyoAIDS Walk, PO Box 2403, Laramie, WY 82073.
Once again this year we thank all the Laramie merchants who participated in the "Paint the Town Red" campaign. Many Laramie merchants displayed Red Ribbons in support of the walk. Money raised from this year\'s walk will help men and women living with HIV in Wyoming and their families. Walk money helps when no other funds are available to help with medicaion co-pays, dental and vision care, counseling, and other unmet needs. Individuals may apply for help through their case managers, and the funds are administered by Laramie Reproductive Health. Addionally, money from this year\'s walk will also go to the NAZ Foundation in India, providing care and support for HIV infected children, and to Partners in Health,WyoAIDS Walk 2008 providing care, education and support in Rwanda and other third world countries. Look for us in April 2009 for the 8th annual WyoAIDS Walk, and together we can live year\'s theme of Be a Friend, Not Afraid, Stamp out Stigma.
See you in 2009!
