WyoAIDS Walk 2011, our 10th annual walk, was a great success. The Laramie walk brought in more that $5,000, Drag Queen Bingo more than $10,500, and the Cheyenne walk added even more to our tally. Which means that to date, these 5-K pledge walks have raised more than $160,000 to provide support for men, women and children living with HIV in Wyoming. Walk funds are administered by the non profit Laramie Reproductive Health through a client assistance fund which can by accessed through HIV Case Managers across the state.
Funds are used for medical, dental, vision, counseling and other emergency needs not covered by insurance or other programs. In the past ten years, more than 400 individuals have received assistance through walk funds. WyoAIDS Walk is the only statewide fundraising effort to provide help for HIV+ or AIDS diagnosed individuals in Wyoming.
Volunteers from the University of Wyoming student groups including Face AIDS and Spectrum, LCCC's Across All Lines, Laramie Reproductive Health, and several members of the Laramie and Cheyenne communities work together to plan the walks and related activities. Thanks to their efforts and underwriting funds, all monies raised from the walk and related activities go directly into the client assistance fund.
